Privacy policy

Fermentcalc is a reference site. It does not require a user account, does not capture email addresses, and does not log personal data by design.

What we collect

• Aggregate analytics. Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics 4 run only after you accept the cookie banner, for aggregate usage and on-page interaction measurement.
• Server logs.Standard request metadata (timestamp, user-agent, referrer, IP address) is handled by Cloudflare’s edge network, which hosts the site, for abuse prevention. These logs are retained per Cloudflare’s published retention policy and never linked to personal identifiers.
• Advertising cookies (Google AdSense). This site shows ads served by Google AdSense, and the AdSense script loads on every page, but it starts with advertising cookies and ad personalisation switched off (Google Consent Mode). They switch on only if you choose Allow in the cookie bar; Decline keeps them off, and Google may then still show ads that are not personalised.

What we do NOT collect

• Email addresses, names, or contact details — we have no sign-up form.
• User accounts, saved recipes, saved ferments — no such feature exists.
• Location data beyond the approximate country suggested by your IP.
• Comment or forum data — the site has no comment sections.

Third-party services

• Cloudflare — hosting + edge delivery. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
• Google AdSense— advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and opt out of other vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. For how Google uses data from sites that show its ads, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
• Affiliate links — equipment links on this site are affiliate links (Amazon Associates). We set no cookie ourselves; the retailer sets its own cookie afteryou click through, which is how a purchase is credited to us. We receive only anonymous, aggregated commission reports — never your identity, cart, or order contents. Amazon's privacy notice is at amazon.com privacy notice. Not clicking an affiliate link sets no retailer cookie at all. When you click one, we count the click anonymously (which section of the site and which link position), with no cookie and nothing that identifies you, so we can see which guides are useful. Pages also show one small Amazon product ad, marked Sponsored. Its photo loads from Amazon's image server (m.media-amazon.com) and its price comes from Amazon's product API through our own server, refreshed at most hourly. It sets no cookies of ours.

Your rights

Under GDPR (applying to all visitors regardless of location, as the site is operated from the EU) you can request information about what, if anything, is held about you, and ask for its deletion. Since Fermentcalc does not store personal data itself, such requests are typically a matter of contacting the relevant third party (Cloudflare, Google, Microsoft). If you believe data is being held incorrectly, please contact us.

Change your cookie choice

Withdrawing consent must be as easy as giving it. Use the button below to reset your choice — the consent banner will reappear so you can pick again.

Changes

This policy may be updated as the site evolves (for example when a newsletter is added). Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised Last updated date.
