Terms of service

Last updated: 6 May 2026. Operator jurisdiction: Netherlands.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of fermentcalc.com (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Reference, not a recipe

Fermentcalc is a calculator + reference for lacto-fermentation salt percentages and ferment times. It is not a step-by-step recipe service, not a substitute for professional food-safety guidance, and not a warranty that any specific ferment will be safe to eat. Fermentation outcomes depend on factors outside the calculator’s scope: ingredient freshness, equipment cleanliness, ambient temperature, humidity, and time. Always inspect, smell, and taste your ferments before consuming. When in doubt, throw it out.

2. Food-safety disclaimer

Fermented foods carry inherent risks. While the salt + time ranges provided are derived from public-domain food-science sources (NCHFP, Sandor Katz’s public writing, Noma fermentation lab’s public publications), Fermentcalc does not warrant the safety of any specific ferment. Pregnant individuals, immunocompromised individuals, the elderly, and infants should consult a qualified food-safety professional before consuming home-fermented products. This is not medical or food-safety advice; it is a reference table.

3. Data sources and accuracy

The salt-percentage and time-range data is sourced from public-domain fermentation literature. These ranges represent typical food-science guidelines, not guarantees. Specific batches can vary based on ingredient water content, ambient conditions, and microbial culture diversity. We make reasonable efforts to keep the reference accurate but make no warranty of completeness or absence of error.

4. Permitted use

You may view, share links to, and reference content for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not:

5. Intellectual property

The structure, methodology, design, and code of the Service are owned by Fermentcalc and protected by copyright. The Fermentcalc name and logo are trademarks. Underlying public-domain food-science facts (salt percentages, ferment times) remain in the public domain.

6. Affiliate disclosure

Fermentcalc may include affiliate links to retailers (e.g., Cultures for Health, Masontops, fermentation supply shops) when relevant. Affiliate commissions help keep the core calculator free. Affiliate links are marked with rel=“sponsored nofollow” and accompanied by an inline disclosure where present.

7. Advertising

Fermentcalc may display advertisements via Google AdSense. Ads are clearly labeled. Clicking an ad takes you to a third-party site whose practices are outside our control. See the Privacy policy for details on advertising cookies and how to opt out.

8. Third-party services

The Service uses Vercel for hosting, optional Plausible Analytics, and (when active) Google AdSense. Their use is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. See the Privacy policy for the full list.

9. No accounts or personal data

Fermentcalc has no user accounts, no email capture, no comment sections, and no saved-state features. Visitors are anonymous. If you email us we retain only the email and our reply for as long as needed to handle your inquiry.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE CALCULATOR OUTPUTS ARE SUITABLE FOR ANY SPECIFIC FERMENT, THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY OUTCOME WILL BE SAFE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FERMENTCALC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING ILLNESS OR LOSS ARISING FROM CONSUMING HOME-FERMENTED PRODUCTS PREPARED USING REFERENCES FROM THIS SITE. IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED ONE EURO (€1).

12. Changes

These Terms may be updated as the site evolves. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised Last updated date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of the Netherlands.
